What is your occupation?
Beauty Operator/Nail Tech: I like to do a lot of precision haircuts, piece-y styling, jagged baby bangs, and all types of nail art (especially detailed). I also do eyebrow and facial waxing.
How did you or why did you pursue a position at MBH?
I’ve always heard great things about MBH through friends, so it was already on my list of salons to check out, and then my former instructor from MATC Cosmetology-Rick, reached out to me about potentially working for him and his new business partner Alice. Thus, I started at MBH!
How long have you been a Beauty Operator?
I graduated from Madison College in December 2018, and have been licensed since late January 2019.
What is your favorite MBH shop memory?
Handing out treats, and petting all the local dogs that pass by the shop!
What do you love most about doing hair and nails?
I have a visual arts background, so I just really love the aspect of using my hands to do creative things, all while helping people feel good about themselves. Cutting/styling hair feels a lot like sculpting to me. Doing makeup, nails, and dying hair feels the most like painting or drawing.
What is your current style icon/inspiration or favorite role model?
Definitely my parents; they’ve always been so open, unconditionally loving, and supportive. I’ve also always been inspired by old school punk fashion/hair.
What is your favorite or most used beauty product?
Lush R&B, cause it smells amazing!
What do you love most about Madison/the Midwest?
The tight-knit community feeling, and all the different types of CHEESES.
What is another favorite local business of yours?
Why is receiving beauty services important to you?
Anytime I get a service done, I always feel like a million bucks afterwards, so I feel like it can be a huge confidence booster for most people, and a great form of self-care.
What does “better beauty culture” mean to you?
Better Beauty Culture is helping people look exactly and unapologetically how they want to look. All compassion, and no judgement.
