MBH Client Feature: Mercy Greenwald
It’s no secret we love our clients. That’s because they’re more than just clients to us—they’re our family, our friends, our biggest supporters and our lifelines. And…they’re all beautiful in so many ways!
So, to flaunt the fierce inner and outer beauty of our MBH family we’re kicking off a blog series highlighting one of our clients each month. We’re excited to start things off with Mercy. She has a huge heart and a beautiful smile. Mercy is a social worker by day, but many of you may know her from Mickey’s, where she bartends in the evenings.
Here’s a little about our friend, Mercy.
How long have you been a client of MBH?
“I’ve been a client of Alice’s for over a decade and have followed her throughout her career. I was so unbelievably excited when she opened Midwest Beauty House, and I am still a happy client! I also love getting my nails done by Ashley—she does absolutely amazing nail work.”
What’s your favorite thing about MBH?
“There’s something about MBH, it’s just so comfortable, fun and easy there. All the folks who work there are so talented and kind and funny and gorgeous! And when you’re there, this energy permeates the space—we’re all chatting, laughing, hanging out and having fun. The first time I walked in and sat down to get my hair done it was like coming home to a dear and super cool friend’s living room.”
What do you love most about your hair and nails?
“I love that when I get my nails and hair done at MBH, it’s completely and totally my own—they use their knowledge and expertise to make me look and feel super cute and beautiful, on my own terms. There isn’t the assumption about what beauty is supposed to be and I love that so much.”
What is your favorite beauty product?
“I can get down on some fancy beauty products, but my Shea Moisture Pure Coconut Oil is what I use every day, for almost everything in my life really.”
What do you love most about Madison/the Midwest?
“It’s unassuming; we have some really amazing stuff here, but we’re like ‘yeah, ok coasts, you can steal all the thunder. We’re fine.’”
What are some of your other favorite local businesses?
“Am I biased if I say Mickey’s because I also work there? But’s it’s another business I love so much. And Player’s Bar! And Heartland Credit Union! Gotta give some love to my money-managing peeps. Oh, and Willalby’s for breakfast and Lazy Jane’s Cafefor scones (and the sweeties that work there!) and The Willy Street Co-Op and…okay, so maybe I have a neighborhood preference. I love the east side!”
Why is receiving beauty services important to you?
“It’s one of the few things I do for myself that feels incredibly indulgent and makes me feel really, really good. In my day job as a social worker I deal with a lot of institutional and systemic stuff that makes me feel powerless, so getting to be steeped in the sweet positivity of that shop, talking about my day, getting built back up into feeling strong and capable means a lot to me! And it really works! I’m a different person when I leave there!”
What does “better beauty culture” mean to you?
“It means beauty without condition. Like, you get to be beautiful the way you define it, and these folks will help you attain that with unconditional positivity and thoughtfulness. It means getting to be beautiful on my own terms, along with people that share that vision. It means getting pretty and feelin’ fancy!”
