MBH Client Feature: Jennifer

Meet Jennifer, this month’s featured client. She’s legendarily friendly and a pleasure to have in the shop, whether it’s for a manicure or haircut. Learn more about Jennifer and her experience as a Midwest Beauty House client (and take a moment or two to appreciate that sassy nail are and fierce red hair).


Why did you start coming to Midwest Beauty House as a client?

I was following Ashley’s Instagram account (which I found through a friend who’s also an MBH client) because I love looking at pictures of manicures and decided to try it out for myself. After I’d been getting my nails done for awhile, I decided that I wanted Midwest Beauty House to be my one-stop beauty shop so I started seeing Robyn for my hair as well.

How long have you seen your Beauty Operator(s)?

I’ve been seeing Ashley since April 2018, and Robyn since September 2018 (although it feels like I’ve been seeing them forever!).

What is your favorite MBH beauty shop memory?

I can’t pick just one – every time I come through the door I know I’m going to have a great time and come out looking fantastic. The vibe of the shop is unlike anywhere I’ve ever been before – I get a good feeling whenever I’m there.

What do you love most about your hair (nails)?

Ashley is the best – she has great energy and always gives me the perfect manicure, even when I come in with zero ideas. I’ve also learned a lot from her about nail care, so my nails are way healthier than they were before I started seeing her.


What is your current style icon/inspiration or favorite role model?

Is it terrible that I have no idea? I generally go from scrubs to leggings/workout clothes to pajamas and then the cycle starts again.

What is your favorite or most used beauty product?

MOISTURIZER x1000. As much as I love the winter, it takes a huge toll on my skin – no matter how lazy I am, I never leave the house without it. Also candy cane ChapStick because it smells amazing.

What do you love most about Madison/the Midwest?

The weather, for sure! Every season is my favorite in its own way. Although I’m a Milwaukee girl at heart, over the years I’ve really grown to love Madison – particularly the bike paths and trails, the farmers’ market, and all the great restaurants.

What is another favorite local business of yours?

Java Cat has the BEST gelato in the world (and I can’t get enough of their cold brew!) Lately, I’ve been really into Dragonfly Hot Yoga and Flyght Cycle (hello, New Year’s Resolutions!). And as a pet owner, I spend way too much time (read: money) at MadCat. 😺🐶

Why is receiving beauty services important to you?

It’s all about self-care – I’m also extremely lazy (maybe low-maintenance is a nicer way to say that!) and so I enjoy letting the experts that I trust decide what’s going to look good on me.

What does Better Beauty Culture mean to you?

Looking at the client as a whole person, not just what kind of services you can upsell. One thing I really love about MBH is that I feel like the staff are looking for what’s best for me and my hair and my nails – it’s never about what’s the fanciest or trendiest or most expensive, but always about making my experience as positive as it can be. Client-centered thinking is at the core of Better Beauty Culture.
