Welcome to Midwest Beauty House. Welcome home.
ALL HUMAN BEINGS ARE BEAUTIFUL AND MUST BE VALUED. WE STRIVE TO MAKE THE CONNECTION BETWEEN TAKING CARE OF OUR HOME AND OURSELVES WITH THE BEST BEAUTY CULTURE WE CAN CREATE.
We aspire to be your home for beauty. Our artists and the people we take care of are the most important part of our business and always will be. We believe that beauty is a vital part of all people—at MBH we support that beauty. We believe that fashion is a form of self-expression and art, and that style can exist apart from a materialistic society, as beauty is not grounded in vanity. Whole beauty is important to us, which is why we take an external and internal approach. For this reason, MBH offers products and services that focus on all areas of building a beautiful life.
atwood history-hey, neighbor!
Our second location is less than half a mile from the original shop on the corner of Atwood & Winnebago.
The Atwood building dates from 1913 and originally housed the Security State Bank. Since then, it’s been a speakeasy, a bar, and a few other businesses along the way. We’re so excited to put down more roots in the neighborhood!
winnebago history-neighborhood roots
Our modest two-chair beauty shop has an impressive history. Gibbs Barber Shop was originally owned by Gilbert Westbrook and was the first barber shop we of know that operated in our space. Westbrook sold the business to Iver Kalbacken who ran the shop from 1957 until 1962 when he retired and was greatly missed by the community. The shop was taken over by Don Hufford until Flagstad Flowers opened here in 1970. Following a forty-year hiatus in the beauty trade, we are honored to bring the shop back to life with our 2016 opening.
BEFORE YOU BOOK
HERE ARE A FEW THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
Appointments for beauty services in the shop can be made by booking online or by calling the shop directly. All freelance inquiries for the owner must be made by phone or by email before a booking is confirmed.
We require you to cancel an upcoming appointment at least 24 hours prior to your appointment. Charges may apply for no-show and last minute cancelations.
If you are unsatisfied with your service and notify Midwest Beauty House within 7 days of when the service was received, you may receive additional services from the same beauty operator as your initial service at no charge. If you choose to book with another beauty operator after notifying us of any issue, you will be charged the difference in the service pricing if it is higher than your initial service cost. We want you to be 100% satisfied with your service and will work with you to make sure you are taken care of to the best of our ability.
